Project Goal

Build a telemedicine centre in a slum to save the lives of mothers and babies

Location: Kenya

“By the time pregnant women in labour are experiencing some form of medical emergency, it is often too late.”

Aggrey Otieno will build a telemedicine centre with a 24-hour, on-call doctor and van in a Nairobi slum, thereby helping to save the lives of mothers and babies who lack access to emergency obstetric care. Korogocho is home to an estimated 200,000 people who are troubled by widespread insecurity, substandard sanitation and deep poverty. Currently, an estimated 300 mothers and 200 newborn babies die there every year due to lack of access to medical attention.
