Nominated by Time magazine in 1994 as "one of the 100 young leaders for the new millennium", Dr Rodrigo Jordán is known for his values as well as his vision.
Leader of the first successful South American expeditions to Mt Everest and K2, Jordán has applied the leadership and team-building skills needed to climb the world’s most challenging mountains to business and education.
"Mountaineering completely changed my life," says Jordán, for whom the spirit of enterprise is a guiding principle. His mountaineering successes gave Jordán, a civil engineer and university lecturer, the idea to launch his own company called Vertical S.A. This organisation, along with the charitable foundation Fundación Maitenes, delivers outdoor education and training services to corporations and individuals, particularly children from inner-city areas. By involving children in nature conservation, Jordán hopes to rear future generations of environmentally conscious people. "Those who have not had the opportunity of experiencing and enjoying nature as children will not understand the ethical and economic reasons for protecting it as adults," he explains.
In 1998, Jordán was appointed executive director of the Corporación de Televisión de la Universidad Católica de Chile, the most important TV network in Chile. With the biggest audiences throughout the country, Jordán has now the opportunity to expand on a national basis his vision and beliefs as well as to promote the spirit of adventure and concern for the environment among the Chilean youth.
