Disappearing languages
Language is one of the most amazing creations of the human mind. But today over 50 per cent of the world’s languages are in danger of disappearing, including some that have developed fascinating form: whistled and drummed languages.
"I’m hoping to revive their belief in their own culture. Whistled and drummed languages belong to the people who use them.”
Julien Meyer, a young French bio-acoustician and linguist, wants to preserve these little-known ways of communicating in remote parts of the globe and in so doing is revitalizing a rare heritage.
